Open Graph Generator
Control how your links look when shared on Facebook, LinkedIn, WhatsApp, Slack and Discord. Fill in the fields and watch the share card update.
Use 1200 × 630 pixels (1.91:1), a JPG or PNG under 5 MB, at a full https:// address.
What Open Graph does
Open Graph is a set of meta tags created by Facebook that most of the web now reads. When someone pastes your link into Facebook, LinkedIn, WhatsApp, Slack, Discord, Telegram or iMessage, the app fetches your page and builds a card from the og: tags: image, title, description and site name. Without them, apps guess, and often pick a logo, a random image or nothing at all.
The four tags that matter most
- og:title: can be more conversational than your SEO title, because there is no pixel limit to fight.
- og:description: one or two sentences. Many apps show only the first line.
- og:image: the biggest factor in whether people click. Use 1200 × 630 pixels, keep text away from the edges and make sure it reads at thumbnail size.
- og:url: the canonical address, so likes and shares are counted on one URL.
When your new image doesn’t show
Apps cache the card the first time a link is shared. After changing your tags:
- Facebook: open the Sharing Debugger (developers.facebook.com/tools/debug), paste the URL and click Scrape Again.
- LinkedIn: run the URL through the Post Inspector (linkedin.com/post-inspector).
- WhatsApp and others: there’s no refresh button; adding a harmless query string such as
?v=2makes them fetch it fresh.
Also check that the image URL opens in a private browser window. Images behind a login, blocked by robots.txt, or on http:// often fail.
How to use the Open Graph Generator
- Enter the share title, description and page URL.
- Add a 1200 × 630 image URL and check the share card preview.
- Copy the og: tags into your page’s <head>, then refresh the card in Facebook’s Sharing Debugger.
Frequently asked questions
What size should an og:image be?
1200 × 630 pixels (a 1.91:1 ratio) works across Facebook, LinkedIn and WhatsApp. Smaller images may appear as a small thumbnail instead of a large card.
Do Open Graph tags help SEO?
Not directly; Google doesn’t use them for ranking. They make shared links more attractive, which brings more visits and makes people more likely to link to you.
Why does Facebook still show my old image?
Facebook caches link previews. Paste the URL into the Sharing Debugger and click Scrape Again to refresh it.
